Guardian: Readers playlist - Skanky & Checan

Friends of the family, Skanky and Checan have featured on the Guardian reader playlist. Checan steps in with a heavy hitter, HYTZ, that came out earlier this year on UTTU alongside the track ‘I Love U’. Skanky, at 17, tops off the list with Do You, for those of you who have been in touch with the scene for a while, it is an anthem…

Watch out for these two, with more talent then any normal person would know what to do with, they’re both set to take some big strides up the ranks of bass music producers this year.

Tell us about yourself; who are you, where are you from, what do you do?
Yo, we are sly-one, a trio fromBristol producing house/garage or however people want to brand it.
How long have you been producing & DJing?
We’ve been producing and djing as sly-one for about 6 months now.
What is your favorite piece of studio equipment?
It’s got the be the exhausted, clapped out roland 505 analogue drum machine for them crispy, retro sounds.
What are your musical influences and where do you get your inspiration from?
We are influenced by artists such as Addison groove, French fries, Mosca, Scuba, Joy Orbison, Boddika, GeorgeFitzgerald, Disclosure, Blawan and too many more! We also have to mention that dubstep has influenced us all since we first jumped on the bass music sceneabout 4 – 5 years ago.

Do you have any forthcoming projects / releases ? 
Yes, we have a have a forthcoming release with Dench Recordings that we have just finalized. We believe it is set to be released on digital and 12” later this year. We have also got an official remix for my nu leng and majora sorted.
What other producers do you feel at the moment?
Well, there are the big Bristol names such as my nu leng, woz, Lesley iver and of course the Dench crew!
What’s your five top tunes at the moment? 
1: French Fries – Yo Vogue 2: Lil wayne – A milli (James Blake remix) 3: Randomer – Stalker 4: Julio Bashmore – Ribble to amazon 5: Jessie Ware – Running (Disclosure Remix)
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In five years we see ourselves as a live act performing on bigger and better stages such staunch, fabric and festivals such as dimensions, echo and bestival or doing what were doing now and bringing people vibes.
Do you have any guilty pleasures?
We have been known to all fall asleep at the same time listening to the shawshank redemption soundtrack… but we do also love cheesy 80s electro bangers, Bright Eyes, Slipknot and Bob Dylan!
